The Drama and Theatre Arts degree program at Athens State University is designed to expand the activities and educational opportunities in the dramatic and theatre arts by offering students with any experience level in college theatre to seamlessly transfer into completing a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Theatre Arts with Athens State University.

Students earning a drama and theatre arts degree will acquire various fundamental performance and production techniques, develop dramaturgical skills by learning to critically analyze dramatic literature through historical and aesthetic movements in a variety of arts, and gain knowledge of theatre history, dramatic literature, dramatic theory, as well as current trends in the arts. Students will select one of three concentrations:

  • Musical Theatre
  • Theatre Design and Technology
  • Theatre General Studies

Drama and Theatre Arts majors are also desirable employee candidates in a variety of areas such as acting, directing, writing, producing, managing, designing, set construction, teaching, community activism, and art center management.

The required academic training through research and scholarly writing, accompanied by practical artistic experience with three annual mainstage productions, will allow Drama and Theatre Arts graduates to create a professional portfolio that is immediately applicable to continue their studies in a MA or MFA program in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performance Studies, Educational Theatre, Theatre Arts Administration, Acting, Directing, Playwriting, Set Design, Lighting Design, and Costume Design.
