Mission

The Kares Library supports the academic mission of the University by providing an organized collection, delivering access to instruction and research services, offering usable physical and virtual spaces, and hiring and retaining highly qualified employees.

Goals

The purpose of the Athens State University Kares Library is to support students, faculty, staff, and the community through:

  1. developing and maintaining a high quality, responsive, useful, and timely collection of materials and services to support academic programs and the institution.
  2. the utilization of instruction in information literacy and research services.
  3. providing and maintaining useable physical and virtual spaces.
  4. retaining and hiring highly qualified employees who are committed to the continued success of the university.

Kares Library named for Dr. Robert and Gale Kares

Originally constructed in 1996, Kares Library was named in honor of Robert and Gale Kares on May 3, 2019.

Robert is a 1968 alum of Athens College, and his wife Gale is a retired librarian. As philanthropists and visionaries, their past commitments and continued financial support will provide resources for the library for current students as well as for generations to come.
