About the Kares Library


The Kares Library supports the academic mission of the University by providing an organized collection, delivering access to instruction and research services, offering usable physical and virtual spaces, and hiring and retaining highly qualified employees.


The purpose of the Athens State University Kares Library is to support students, faculty, staff, and the community through:

  1. developing and maintaining a high quality, responsive, useful, and timely collection of materials and services to support academic programs and the institution.
  2. the utilization of instruction in information literacy and research services.
  3. providing and maintaining useable physical and virtual spaces.
  4. retaining and hiring highly qualified employees who are committed to the continued success of the university


The Kares Library operating hours for Summer 2021 starting Monday, May 17th to Monday, July 26th are as follows:

Physical Building

Monday  – Thursday: 8am – 6pm Friday: 8am – 4pm

Virtual Services

Monday  – Thursday: 8am – 5:45pm Friday: 8am – 4:45pm Sunday: 10am – 6pm

Virtual Hours end 15 minutes prior to physical library building closing. Hours are subject to change in between semesters and on holidays. Please see our Facebook page for monthly hours.
