Athenian Players

The Athenian Players are the resident theatre company representing the Drama & Theatre Arts program at Athens State University, housed within the Alabama Center for the Arts.

The Athenian Players enrich the vibrancy of Decatur and Northern Alabama through the creation of live theatre. They act as a supplemental academic experience for Athens State students, granting them hands-on, experiential learning through acting, design, stage management, and production.

Membership is inclusive to regularly enrolled Athens State University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as Community College students and our community at large.

The Athenian Players produce three plays a year, drawing the cast and crew from diverse and talented Athens State University students, Community College students, and the local Alabama community of theatre artists at large. They perform in the Studio Theatre located in the Music & Theatre Building at the Alabama Center of the Arts in historic Downtown Decatur.

Their goal is to continue the long tradition of quality dramatic productions from Athens State University’s illustrious history and to be a beacon for future theatre artists in the greater North Alabama region.
