“We are grateful to local industries such as Polyplex for providing these learning opportunities outside of the classroom for our students,” says Roberts. “We want future Athens State graduates to be well-prepared and positioned for successful careers in the business field.”
Polyplex is among the world’s largest producers of thin polyester film used in packaging for food products and industrial applications. The Decatur facility employs approximately 170 people. Students received an overview of plant operations and a guided tour through the process areas and warehousing area.
Polyplex also provided lunch and a discussion time with their Human Resources Director – Angela Wilson, Accounting and Finance Manager – Dee Walker (an Athens State alum), and the Plant Manager – Ravi Singhal.
Wilson states, “Polyplex is excited to be part of promoting advanced education in North Alabama. Whether through active recruitment or partnering with education professionals such as Kim and Scott, we are committed to investing in education platforms that raise the skill level of the future workforce of our community.”
Polyplex has facilities in India, Turkey, Thailand, and now the United States. Polyplex leaders discussed the global perspective of supply chain management and how students should prepare and develop themselves for leadership positions. Since Polyplex began operations in Decatur less than two years ago, they have offered six internships and two full-time positions to Athens State students.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
