Statement of Economic Interests

DEADLINE TO FILE: APRIL 30
All Athens State employees who are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests form for 2020 must do so by April 30, 2021.

PENALTY FOR LATE FILING:
The Alabama Ethics Commission is imposing and enforcing fines of $10 per day past April 30, 2021, deadline up to $1000, along with potential misdemeanor charges for non-compliance.

**Note Important Update** The salary threshold for filing per Ala Code 36-25-14 (a)(2) is $81,000 effective January 1, 2021, and applies to the filing year 2020 due by April 30, 2021, and all future years unless or until there is another resolution amending the threshold.

SEI Filing Requirements

As a public institution, Athens State employees who meet certain criteria are required to complete an annual Statement of Economic Interests Form.  The Athens State Office of Human Resources provides the Alabama Ethics Commission with a list of employees who meet one or more of the filing criteria.

Each person who meets the necessary criteria, regardless of whether they retired the previous year or served/worked in the public position for any time (even a portion of one day) during the previous year, is required to file.

Public employees must generally:

  • Avoid conflicts of interest
  • Not use public property for private gain; and
  • Otherwise, comply with the Alabama Ethics Law

Ways to File:

You can file the Statement of Economic Interests Form in two ways:

  • Online by going to ethics-form.alabama.gov. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation number.  Please retain for your records.
  • Direct Mail by printing and completing the Statement of Economic Interests Form (PDF) and mailing it on or before April 30th to: Alabama Ethics Commission

Required Ethics Training
Upon employment, all public employees required to file the Statement of Economic Interests form must also access and view their Training Video.   The Ethics Commission will be notified electronically that your training has been completed.  Also, please provide a copy of the Certificate of Completion to Human Resources within 90 days of hire date.
