Frequently Asked Questions
The Foundation awards two scholarship types:
- Foundation Scholarships
- Alumni Scholarships
Foundation and Alumni Scholarships are gifts from donors to support Athens State University students. Requirements vary by award based on the donor’s requests. For the best chance at being matched with a scholarship, please ensure your application is thorough and accurate.
Students can find a list of donor-funded scholarships and their criteria at Foundation Scholarships & Criteria (PDF).
SPRING: The award process begins. Review of eligible applications begins on March 31 for the upcoming academic year.
SUMMER: Awarding continues until there is no more available funding.
FALL: If additional funding becomes available, the Foundation will award it to existing applicants for the current academic year.
Applications open on January 1. Students must apply each year to be considered for a scholarship for the upcoming academic year. Awarding for the year begins in the Spring on a rolling basis. Most scholarships are awarded before the next academic year begins (Fall). However, the Foundation encourages students to apply at any time during the year, as additional funding may become available.
Applicants should reapply:
- on or after January 1 of each year
- if any of the application information has changed, including address, as this may impact the applicant’s ability to receive funding
Review of applications for the upcoming year begins on March 31. Students will be notified via the email address listed on their application if they are matched with an award. Applicants should be sure to check this email regularly. Students are highly encouraged to use their Athens State University student email if they have been admitted to the university. Students must be accepted to Athens State University in order to accept a scholarship offer.
