Athens State Kicks Off Fall Semester and Welcomes Seven New Faculty Members

Dateline: August 14, 2023 – Athens State University welcomed back faculty, staff, and students to campus today as the University began its Fall semester. Interim President, Dr. Catherine Wehlburg, shared an inspirational message to campus to kick off the new academic year, saying, “The 2023-2024 academic year holds boundless opportunities for each and every one of us. Let us look for these opportunities with open arms and open minds, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages growth and exploration. I believe that our collective passion, dedication, and innovative spirit will lead us to new heights and successes that will empower us all.”

Seven new faculty members have also joined the University this fall. Athens State is pleased to welcome the following instructors:

  • Dr. Joseph Chandler – Associate Professor of Psychology
  • Dr. MaryEllen Dennis – Instructor of Healthcare Management
  • Mr. Blake Hargett – Instructor of Early Childhood Education
  • Dr. Nicole Henderson – Assistant Professor of Special Education
  • Dr. Lourdes Smith – Assistant Professor of Elementary Education
  • Dr. Ashley Virgin – Assistant Professor of Special Education
  • Dr. Michele Wallace – Assistant Professor of Elementary Education
