Higgins Wins TSHC Scholarship

Founders Hall

The Tennessee Safety and Health Conference recently announced this year’s James G. “Jim” Neeley Scholarship Award recipient.

The award went to Jennifer Higgins, an Occupational Health & Safety Management degree student at Athens State University. Jennifer also is a mom, working in Physical Therapy and was highly recommended by her Athens State advisor, Dr. John Wells.

The award, and a check for $2,500, will be presented to Jennifer at the TSHC luncheon on August 29, 2022 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville.

James G. “Jim” Neeley was a longtime Tennessee union leader who served as Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development under former Tennessee Governors, Phil Bredesen and Ray Blanton. Prior to his service as Commissioner, Neeley was president of the Tennessee AFL-CIO Labor Council.

TSHC offers this annual scholarship as a way to foster education in safety and health fields, and to maintain good relationships with universities and community colleges across the state.
