The Board of Trustees of Athens State University will hold the Inauguration and Investiture Ceremony for Dr. Catherine Wehlburg on Friday, April 25 at 10:00 am in Carter Gymnasium. Dr. Wehlburg began her Presidential term in May 2024 after serving as Interim President since January 2023. She is Athens State’s 39th president, and only the third permanent female president in the institution’s history.
As part of the celebration, other Inauguration events are planned for April 23 and 24. These include:
Faculty Colloquiums – April 23 at 9:00 am, Kares Library
A morning of learning as Athens State faculty showcase their research projects.
Athens State Student Scholarly and Creative Work Showcase – April 24 at 9:00 am, Kares Library
This event celebrates student academic achievement by providing a platform for students to present and discuss scholarly or creative work from classes, independent research, directed research, capstones, or internships. The showcase is jointly sponsored by the Honors Program, an NSF FUTURE grant, and ATHENS ASPIRE.
Time Capsule Ceremony – April 24 at 3:00 pm, Kares Library
Athens State students will lead the charge in sealing a time capsule to commemorate Dr. Wehlburg’s historic inauguration.
