The 2025 Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Concert Series, presented by Redstone Federal Credit Union, continues with a performance by Act of Congress on Thursday, May 15 at 7:00 pm. The concert, sponsored by Southern States Bank, will be held at Athens State University in McCandless Hall.
Act of Congress has been touring as a band for over 15 years but it feels like they’re just getting started. Dave Higgs of NPR’s Bluegrass Breakdown called them, “one of the freshest sounding, exuberant bands in all of the known acoustic universe.” This genre-bending acoustic quartet’s unique blend of pop, folk, gospel, and bluegrass shines on their latest release, The Hymns That Made Us. “It’s hard for us to record anything truly authentic without including the language of faith.” said violin player Connie Skellie. “These hymns are the soundtrack of our lives.”
The state of Alabama has proven to be rich soil for the creative growth of the genre-bending band Act of Congress. They have consistently been voted a “Must See Live Act of Alabama” and were the featured artist in the state’s “Keep Alabama Beautiful” campaign.
Tickets for the show are $15.00 for adults/$5.00 for children and can be purchased by visiting www.TVOTFC.org.
This event is brought to you by the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention Steering Committee, the Livingston Concert/Lecture Series, and Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, with funding made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts, a federal agency.
