Athens State University will be celebrating International Women’s Day on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 pm with a screening of “Lilly,” an inspiring movie based on the remarkable life and activism of Lilly Ledbetter. The screening will be held in McCandless Hall, complete with complementary popcorn and beverages. Doors will open at 6:00 pm.

Lilly Ledbetter was honored in 2023 with the Athens State University President’s Medal in recognition of her relentless advocacy and transformative contributions towards establishing fair pay standards across the nation. She passed away in 2024.

Before the screening, guests are invited to visit the Nazaretian Alumni Welcome Center between 6:00 – 7:00 pm to view the “Wise Women: Mixed Media Artistry That Explores the Wisdom of Women Who Practice Love Through Their Heart” exhibit featuring the works of artist and Athens State student, Char Baxter. Baxter will be in attendance for a meet and greet.

Both the art exhibition and movie screening are free and open to the community.

Tickets are free, but registration is required. Please visit www.athens.edu/womensday to RSVP by February 28.
