Athens State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Representative Mac McCutcheon and Mr. Mike Underwood to the Board of Trustees by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. Their appointments are for a seven-year term beginning on October 1, 2022 and ending on September 30, 2029.
Representative Mac McCutcheon was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2006. He served as Speaker of the Alabama House of Representatives from 2016-2022 and served as the representative for District 25. McCutcheon is a United States Army Veteran and spent 25 years with the Huntsville Police Department in fields ranging from hostage negotiation to serving as a probation officer before his retirement. He holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Calhoun Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Trinity University. McCutcheon is a native of Madison County and resides in Monrovia.
Mr. Mike Underwood currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of TriGreen Equipment. Mr. Underwood grew up in a farming community in Colbert County and his family has been in the John Deere business for 75 years. Mr. Underwood serves on the Calhoun Community College Foundation Board and Alabama Future Farmers of America and the First Metro Bank Board of Directors. Mr. Underwood earned a bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing from the University of North Alabama. Mr. Underwood resides in Athens.
“While we will miss our departing board members who have served the institution well, we look forward to Speaker McCutcheon and Mr. Underwood joining us,” said Senator Arthur Orr, Board Chairman. “Athens State holds much promise for the future and we need wise leaders like Mac and Mike to help us navigate that path.”
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of Athens State University, with quarterly meetings open to the public. The remaining members of the Athens State University Board of Trustees include Governor Kay Ivey (Ex-Officio President), Senator Arthur Orr (Chair), Mr. Jim America (Vice-Chair), Chancellor Jimmy Baker, Ms. Mary C. Dickens, Mr. William “Bill” Dunnavant, Mr. Goodrich A. “Dus” Rogers, Dr. Sandra Sims-deGraffenried, and Mrs. Missy Ming Smith.
