Students may work no more than 15 hours per week. Positions vary between departments and offices, but can involve clerical work, customer service, technical support, general labor or tutoring. You must be currently enrolled at the university to be eligible for campus student worker positions.

The Writing Center at Athens State is located in the library; students who work here gain specialized skills that will serve them well in almost any future professional endeavor, including one-on-one teaching/coaching, content area knowledge, awareness of digital writing forms, and better overall writing ability. Because Consultants (i.e., Writing Center tutors) need to help students understand assignments, explain the key concepts of course materials, offer feedback and encouragement, and share appropriate resources, required and preferred qualifications for this position are listed on the vacancy notice.

Salary is $7.75 per hour for most positions. Salary for all tutors is $9.00 per hour.

Congratulations on securing on-campus employment! All newly hired students must complete payroll paperwork before their first day of work.

A photo ID (current driver’s license) and a document that establishes employment authorization (Social Security Card) will need to be taken to Human Resources, located in Founders Hall, Room 107, between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm, M-F.

* See page 9 of the Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) for lists of acceptable documents for identification.

*If you do not have your Social Security card, you may request a copy. At the time of request, a receipt of the request will be provided to you that indicate your name and social security number. Bring that letter with you to our office. After you receive your card, you will need to bring it to our office so we can make a copy for your personnel file.

Paychecks can be direct deposited to your bank (preferred) or picked up at the Business Office window in Founders Hall on the last working day of each month.
