Athens State Celebrates College Colors Day

College Colors Day 2024

On August 21, Governor Kay Ivey delivered a proclamation to officially recognize August 30, 2024 as the day to celebrate Alabama’s public universities with College Colors Day, and encouraged every Alabamian to join her in wearing the apparel of their favorite university on this day. She thanked these universities for their difference-making contribution to the state, and commented that she appreciated their important role in economic development. The announcement was made in Montgomery and attended by the mascots from all of Alabama’s public universities.

Athens State University alumni, faculty, staff, students, and fans celebrated College Colors Day by wearing their Athens State blue to work and school.

According to Gordon Stone, Executive Director of the Higher Education Partnership, “We celebrate universities because of the difference they make for every Alabamian. Alabama’s 14 public universities provide excellent educational pathways for every student to achieve their career dreams and are leaders in research and innovation. With a more than $20 billion collective impact on Alabama, universities are powerful drivers for the economy of the state.”

No matter the university that is favored, the Higher Education Partnership encourages every Alabamian to show their school spirit by wearing the school’s colors, sharing on social media, and using the hashtag #CollegeColorsDay on August 30.
