Meet Eliu Gregorio Segovia Orozco
Meet Eliu Segovia, a 2026 graduate from the Master of Science in Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management (MS-GLSCM) program in the College of Business. For Segovia, earning a master’s degree from Athens State was the fulfillment of a 25-year long personal goal.
As a 50-year-old serving as a Supply Chain Director in Mexico, Segovia has built a career in Supply Chain Management working primarily for American companies, including 3M, Baxter, and Tupperware. Throughout his career, his experiences working alongside American colleagues inspired him to further his education at an institution based in the United States.
Segovia shared that he always hesitated to pursue this goal because he questioned whether his English skills would be strong enough to attend an American university. Hesitations aside, his wife encouraged him to dedicate time to improving his English during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As my English improved, I realized that perhaps it was finally the right time to pursue my goal of earning a master’s degree in the United States,” Segovia said.

After researching universities, Segovia discovered Athens State’s online Master of Science in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management program. The flexibility of an online program allowed him to pursue his educational goal while continuing his professional career.
“Athens State opened the door for me to pursue a goal that I had carried with me for many years,” he shared.
The degree also provided Segovia with an opportunity to strengthen his expertise in the field he had spent decades working in through connecting graduate-level education directly to his professional experience and career.
Dr. Cyndi Lovelace, Assistant Dean for the College of Business, taught and mentored Segovia throughout the program and Segovia recalled her as a highlight of his time at Athens State.
“It was a privilege to teach and mentor Eliu as he progressed through our (MS-GLSCM) program,” Dr. Lovelace said. “He also epitomizes the impact that our GLSCM program can have at an international level.”
For Segovia, crossing the stage at Athens State was the culmination of both a professional and personal journey. His parents, wife, and parents-in-law attended the ceremony, while relatives in Mexico watched via livestream. Segovia’s family was recognized during the ceremony. He shared that it was a memory to last all of their lifetimes.
“Completing my master’s degree was much more than an academic achievement for me,” Segovia shared. “It represented the accomplishment of a personal and professional dream.”
Segovia’s experience affirms that distance and circumstance do not have to be barriers for Athens State students. Rather, these can be the very thing to propel students like Segovia into the growth and potential they always dreamt possible.
“I will always be proud and grateful to be an Athens State University graduate,” Segovia said.
