General 1098-T Information:
1098-T Forms are issued by the Business Office no later than January 31 of each year for the preceding calendar year. The 1098-T reports amounts paid during the calendar year for qualified tuition and related expenses. Qualified tuition and related expenses are tuition, fees, and course materials required for a student to be enrolled at or attend an eligible education institution. Qualified tuition and related expenses do not include charges and fees for room, board, fines, late registration, or late payments. Students may elect to receive their 1098-T electronically or by mail.

How to Receive a Form 1098-T by Mail:
If the student does not consent to receiving the Form 1098-T electronically, it will be mailed to the student’s permanent address on file with the school by January 31st of each year. Please ensure that the permanent address is correct by January 1st. If the permanent address has changed, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
How to Receive a Form 1098-T Electronically:
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations state that each student who wishes to receive their 1098-T electronically must provide consent electronically. To take advantage of this, please provide electronic consent using one of the options below:
Option 1: Provide Consent through MyAthens Portal
- Log in to MyAthens Portal using your student credentials and click on MyAthens Self Service.
- Select Student Accounts, Payments, Payment Plans, & Refunds Portal from the links on the left of the Student Profile.
- On the Student Payment Activity and Refunds homepage, navigate to the 1098-T Documentation card on the dashboard.
- An online consent form will be presented. If you agree, click on “Consent”.
- Please note: If a student consents to receive the Form 1098-T electronically, a Form 1098-T will NOT be sent by mail, and the student must return to the site after January 31st to view/print a copy of the Form 1098-T. The consent will also apply to subsequent years.
Option 2 (If you no longer have access to the MyAthens Portal): Provide Consent through TSC1098-T
- Go to www.tsc1098t.com
- Enter the Site ID: 12112
- Username: Your Student ID Number
- Password: Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN)
- Note: Students without SSN or who did not provide one to the school must enter 0000 as the temporary password.
- An online consent form will be presented. If you agree, click on “Consent”.
- Please note: If a student consents to receive the Form 1098-T electronically, a Form 1098-T will NOT be sent by mail, and the student must return to the site after January 31st to view/print a copy of the Form 1098-T. The consent will also apply to subsequent years.
Missing or Incorrect Personal Information:
Athens State University is required by the IRS to obtain SSN or a Tax Identification Number (TIN) in order to file the Form 1098-T with the IRS. If the SSN or any other personal information is incorrect or missing, please contact the Registrar’s Office.
