Athens State Begins Fall Semester with Six New Faculty Members and Eight Faculty Promotions

Athens State University welcomed back faculty, staff, and students to campus today as the University began its Fall semester. “Welcome to the start of a new academic year!” said Dr. Alyson Gill, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services. “This year, we have the opportunity to build on our successes, innovate in our teaching and research, and strengthen the bonds that make our beautiful campus a special place to work and grow. The dedication, creativity, and passion that you all bring to this community are what make Athens State University a place like no other. Thank you for all that you do. I’m excited to see the incredible things we will achieve together this year.” 

Six new faculty members have joined the University this fall. Athens State is pleased to welcome the following instructors:

    • Danielle Chouinard – Access and User Experience Librarian
    • Tammy Clemmons – Assistant Professor of Nursing
    • Dr. Kevin Kelleher – Assistant Professor of Music Industry Studies
    • Dr. Kendra Lee – Assistant Professor of Acquisition & Contract Management
    • Michael Phillips – Assistant Professor of Accounting
    • Dr. Jason Watkins – Associate Professor of Chemistry

    Athens State University is also pleased to announce the promotions of eight faculty members:

    • Dr. Sara Cline – Professor of Biology
    • Dr. Patsy Glaze – Professor of Mathematics
    • Dr. Kimberly Jack – Professor of English
    • Dr. Shannon Pittman – Associate Professor of Biology with Tenure
    • Dr. Johnnie Lundin – Professor of Elementary Education
    • Dr. Jamie Mikell – Associate Professor of Health and Physical Education with Tenure
    • Dr. Timothy Thornton – Associate Professor of Career and Technical Education with Tenure
    • Ms. Mary Aquila – Senior Librarian
