Athens State Opens New Campus Walking Trail

Bear Tracks Trail Ribbon Cutting

Athens State University held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for its new Bear Track Trail. The half-mile walking trail starts at the Pryor Street crosswalk between the Classroom Building and Sanders Hall, and loops around campus. Trail markers featuring Athens State’s mascot, Hebrew, lead walkers along the path.

Another half-mile walking trail is currently being planned for the north side of campus. Once completed, the proximity of the two trails will coordinate to give walkers the option to walk a full mile. Bear Track Trail is open to the public.

“Today, as we open this walking trail, we celebrate not just a path through our beautiful campus, but a pathway to health and wellness for our entire community,” said Dr. Catherine Wehlburg, Athens State University President. “This trail invites us all to step outside, connect with nature, and prioritize our well-being. It stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering a vibrant, healthy environment for every student, faculty member, staff member, and visitor. Let us walk together towards a brighter, healthier future! Onward ever!”
