Dr. Catherine Wehlburg Elected to CHEA Board of Directors

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) announced today that Catherine Wehlburg, Ph.D., Interim President of Athens State University, and Timothy Letzring, Ph.D., Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Higher Education at the University of Central Florida were elected to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation’s Board of Directors.

During CHEA’s May Board of Directors meeting, Dr. Wehlburg and Dr. Letzring were unanimously elected to join the Board for a three-year term. 

“During this important time for higher education, quality assurance and accreditation, the CHEA Board looks forward to the insightful vision and institutional experience to be shared by Dr. Wehlburg and Dr. Letzring,” said CHEA Board Chair Gena Glickman, President Emerita, Manchester Community College. “Their contributions will benefit CHEA and the entire higher education community.”

Prior to her current role at the Alabama-based institution, Dr. Wehlburg was Senior Fellow at AAC&U. She also served as Founding Dean for the College of Sciences, Mathematics, and Education at Marymount University. Dr. Wehlburg has been recognized for her work in student learning outcomes assessment by being elected president of the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education and received their Outstanding Achievement Award. Dr. Wehlburg received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in Educational Psychology. 

“Ensuring academic quality is essential in higher education – now more than ever. I am honored to serve on the CHEA Board of Directors and continue to advocate for quality assurance and higher education accreditation,” said Catherine Wehlburg, Ph.D. 

As Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Letzring oversees the Orlando-based institution’s Academic Program Quality, Operational Excellence and Assessment Support, and UCF Global. Dr. Letzring’s role includes working with curriculum processes for new and existing courses and programs, working with the Board of Governors’ office on academic policy, procedures, and regulations. In his role as a faculty member, Dr. Letzring serves as UCF’s SACSCOC liaison and serves on the SACSCOC Board of Trustees. Dr. Letzring holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Central Florida.

“I am truly honored to join CHEA’s board of directors — to learn from its leaders and my fellow board members and to hopefully contribute to its goal of ensuring academic quality. I could not think of a more exciting time to join this important organization on accreditation,” said Dr. Letzring.

The CHEA Board of Director terms of both Dr. Wehlburg and Dr. Letzring will begin on July 1, 2023.
