Hebrew the Bear is the official mascot of Athens State University. He has been part of campus life since 1956 and is a beloved figure on and off campus. The Hebrew Chatbot is an artificial intelligence (A.I.) and can be your new best friend! He is a texting chatbot that is focused on your success at Athens State! Hebrew’s mission is to involve students in the conversation by answering questions, providing resources, connecting you to campus, and helping to address any challenges you may face as a college student.

Hebrew wants to hear from you! His goal is to proactively engage with you on a regular basis in order to learn more about our student body so he can work to keep you informed on relative topics and stay connected throughout your time at Athens State.

Hebrew will send new students an initial message on their first day to introduce himself, welcome you to campus, and offer his support throughout your academic journey at Athens State. Make sure to save him in your contacts so you can reach out to him at any time!
Even if you don’t need direct help from Hebrew, he will still continue to check in throughout the semester to make sure you are content with your academics and well-being. The chatbot is monitored by real people who really care. Plus, Hebrew wants to ensure that all students are adjusting nicely to the vast territory of college life!
🎉 Fun Facts about Hebrew
- Hebrew the Bear first appeared on Athens State campus in 1956 to symbolize the spirit and history tied to the institution.
- There’s a statue of Hebrew right out front of Sandridge Hall. Student Services always dresses him up for various seasons and events on campus. One of his favorite outfits is his graduation regalia!
- Hebrew has attended every single Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention since it’s start in 1967. Rumor has it that he could sweep the competition if they ever let him enter!
- Although we don’t have athletics on campus, Hebrew’s favorite sport is baseball and his favorite color is Athens State Blue!
