Accounting Club Receives 2023 Gold Award of Excellence

The Athens State University Accounting Club, an Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Chapter, has received the Gold Award of Excellence. The Gold Award includes a certificate and $500 monetary award that will be used to fund activities in the coming academic year.

To be eligible to win the Gold Award, the student chapter must meet several criteria. Chapters are required to hold a minimum number of educational meetings throughout the year covering a wide range of topics including ethics, management accounting, and leadership training; attend industry tours; publish newsletters; participate in community service and promotional events; participate in a case study and manuscript competition; attend the annual IMA Student Leadership Conference; and prepare an executive summary. Each year the Athens State University student chapter represents the University glowingly by going over and beyond the requirements with more than the required number or meetings and other activities. This achievement demonstrates the group of students’ dedication to excellence.

Athens State Accounting Club membership provides opportunities for students to associate with practicing management accountants to see how they live, work, and apply their knowledge. Members also learn how seriously devoted professionals are to their field and to high ethical standards. To qualify for student membership, one must be a regularly- enrolled business student carrying at least six semester hours of credit. The association requires an application in writing that is endorsed by a faculty member or the Registrar. The Accounting Club is advised by Athens State professors Emily Corzine and Christopher Nelson.
