The Athens State University Accounting Club, an IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) Student Chapter, was recently recognized as a winner of the IMA Award of Excellence.
In order to win this award, IMA student chapters must meet several criteria. One requirement is to hold a minimum of 5 educational meetings throughout the year covering a wide range of topics including ethics, management accounting, and leadership training. The Athens State chapter greatly exceeded this requirement by holding 12 meetings during the year, with an average attendance of 50. At three meetings, there were over 65 in attendance.
Other requirements for the award are attending industry tours, publishing newsletters, holding student officer board meetings, participating in community service activities and promotional events, attending the annual IMA Student Leadership Conference, and preparing an executive summary. In the IMA’s congratulations message, they noted that the Athens State University’s IMA Student Chapter “met and exceeded the criteria to earn the Award of Excellence.”
IMA Student Chapter faculty advisors are Professors Emily Corzine and Michael Phillips, and all accounting faculty participate in club leadership and events.
