Athens State is pleased to announce that the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) has approved a new Graduate Certificate in Elementary Mathematics Coaching. The program will begin in Fall 2026.

The Graduate Certificate in Elementary Mathematics Coaching (EMC) is designed for individuals pursuing the Mathematics Coaching Endorsement on their Alabama Teaching Certificate. It is geared to supplement students’ content and pedagogical skills with coaching program knowledge, advanced instruction in elementary level mathematics, adult learning principles, and understanding the role of school-based mathematics coaches.

In addition, ACHE has also approved changes to two other Athens State degree programs.

The MS in Strategic Leadership program will now have a track in Safety Management. There is an increasing complexity of markets, shifting demographics, and technological advances in the workplace, and this program aims to equip students with the advanced interpersonal and strategic skills to meet this need. Safety Management joins the program’s existing track options of Business Analytics, Healthcare Management, Human Resource Management, Management of Cybersecurity Operations, and Tailored Leadership.

The Individualized Degree Program bachelor’s program has also been renamed to “Interdisciplinary Studies.” This program offers students the opportunity to design a unique college experience and education that meets their personal career goals.
