Jennifer “Jenny” Higgins, a student at Athens State University, is working with the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home (ABCH) through the Bonner Leader Program (BLP).
The BLP is a nationally recognized fellowship program for students that have financial need, exhibit a capacity for leadership development, and show an interest in community service. Athens State adopted the program in 2021 with Bonner Leaders placed at non-profits in the communities of Athens, Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Cullman, and Birmingham.
Jenny is helping ABCH with tutoring, mentoring, fundraising, and event organization. She recently organized a movie night with pizza donated by Alfonso’s Pizza and Italian Restaurant and popcorn donated by Athens State University. Jenny stated that the kids had an “amazing” time and the parents were “excited to get together as a community”.
