The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a Minor in Education (Grades 6–12) at Athens State University combines a strong foundation in chemical science with focused preparation in teaching and learning. Great science teachers need more than knowledge of their subject. They need to know how to make that subject understandable, relevant, and exciting to students.
This program combines comprehensive study in Chemistry with an Education minor designed to introduce you to the principles and practices of effective teaching. Your Chemistry coursework gives you a strong foundation in areas such as general, organic, analytical, inorganic, and physical chemistry. It also complements that scientific preparation with an introduction to learning theory, instructional strategies, classroom management, assessment, and educational practice.
Together, these experiences prepare you to connect complex chemical concepts to real-world experiences and help students see why chemistry matters.
As a Secondary Education major in a STEM field, you will automatically be a part of the Athens State TEACH program, which provides personalized, hands-on support and financial assistance to help you reach the finish line.
